Some adults will choose to go back home and stay with their parents because of a financial problem or marriage failure. Of course parents would be willing to help, but most family members are hoping it's just temporary. Because when people reply on others for living, they will lose freedom, as well as their companions and the respect from society. Even though not everyone can be completely independent, most American think they should at least look independent.
Although America provides a great deal of financial support to those people in need by mean of Charity or government institution, they still hope such help is just temporary. Eventually they need to learn to be independent. Even people can get financial support from charity institution, family or government, this approach is not advocated. Some even think that people living by relying on others is a typical example of ugliness, which will undermine the image of American. Those beggars and the homeless wandering around the city street indeed worth our sympathy, but they also tarnish the image of American's independence.
