For many years, English subject has been taken as important as mathematics and Chinese in the national entrance exam for college. In school students’ academic lives, English has taken up a great amount of efforts and energy. Sometimes, it has become a lion’s share and actually diminished their time for Chinese and math. As a result, recently, the Ministry of Education has decided to cut down the weight of English in favor of Chinese studying. It goes without saying that this decision is well received. As is well known to all, learning a foreign language, we can better communicate with people from other cultures. The reduced weight of English in “Gaokao” will never reduce its importance in present-day China; nor will it decrease our interest and necessity in international communication.
