Probably和may 的区别

1、词性不同

probably是副词，在句子中表示行为或状态特征。

may是情态动词，用在行为动词前，表示说话人对这一动作或状态的看法或主观设想。 

2、语气不同

probably意为“或许，大概”，强调合情合理有依据，有根据，常有可能性很大的意思。语气较强。

如There's probably some kind of animals on some other worlds, but we do not know yet.

很可能在其他的世界存在着另类的动物，只是我们尚不知道。

may表示"可能有，可能在"，是一种口头猜测，语气较轻。

如This addition may interfere with the symmetry of the building.

增建部分可能会有损这座建筑物的对称。

3、用法不同

probably常用more,most,修饰，不能用very修饰。

He is the most probably boy to earn the champion.

他是最有可能夺冠的男孩。

may一般与be连用， 是情态动词+系动词be的结构。表示"可能有，可能在",否定式为 may not be。

如He may be over forty years old.他可能有四十多岁了。

probably“很有可能；十之八九”，其语义较强，可能性较大。在否定句中，probably不能紧跟在否定词之后。例如：

It will probably be fine tomorrow．明天大概会是晴天。
译：她大概不会来这里。
正：Probably she won’t come here．
正：She probably won’t come here．
正：She won’t come here probably．
误：She won’t probably come here．

maybe是副词，意思是“也许、可能”，在句中作状语，相当于perhaps，常位于句首。
Maybe she’ll come this afternoon. 她可能今天下午来。
Maybe you put the letter in your pockets. 大概你把信放在衣袋里了。

maybe和may be可相互转换。

He may be in the office.
= Maybe he is in the office. 他或许在办公室。

You may be right.
= Maybe you are right. 你或许是对的

1、may（情态动词）前面一定要加主语,但maybe可以放到句首。
2、probably（副词）可以放在句中多个位置。
