Since the eighties and especially since the nineties of the 20th century, the globalization of the financial markets has become increasingly obvious. Nearly all open economies have been involved in the globalization. The globalization of the financial markets is the fruit of economic integration. As much as economies benefit from financial globalization, they have also been gradually exposed to great risks. Several financial crises broke out in emerging markets during the past decades, which turned out to be extremely contagious. As the most sensitive part and at the core of the modern economy, financial services are bound to be be severely affected. Due to historical and practical reasons, and due to the characteristics of our country's economic and financial system, there are still many financial problems posing a threat to the security of that financial system. Especially since China's accession to the World Trade Organization and the increasing financial liberalization, banking, securities and insurance industries are all faced with enormous pressures from foreign financial institutions.
Since joining the WTO, our country's financial cervices industry should abide by the terms of the WTO and its related agreements and China's market for financial services will be further opened accordingly. There is still a gap between the present openness of the financial services industry and the demands of the WTO. Our country should take measures to ensure an orderly and healthy development of the market for financial services.
